12th Annual Brazilian Street Carnaval of Long Beach Helps Children and Brings Samba Celebrities
Long Beach, California (August 28, 2008) - SambaLa Samba School and RioBela Productions presents the 12th Annual Brazilian Street Carnaval on the Promenade in downtown Long Beach on Sunday, September 28 from noon to 8 pm. This year's theme is "Children - The Future of All Nations" with proceeds of the event to go help children in the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. Also exclusive to this year's event are Rio's reigning King and Queen of Carnaval, Alex de Oliveira, Rio's current King Momo and Thatiana Pagung, current samba queen of Mocidade Samba School, one of the top samba schools in Brazil. The event also includes a Rio-Style parade, a Trio-Electrico parade, Brazilian food, Brazilian goods, and Brazilian performances. Special activities for children will include samba dance class, samba drum classes, and capoeria (Brazilian Martial Arts) classes.
The highlight of the day-long event is the Rio-Style parade which will be presided over by the current King and Queen of Rio's 2008 Carnaval. Alex de Oliveira and Thatiana Pagung will preside of the Rio-Style spectacular with over 20 samba bikini dancers, 35 samba drummers, a float, a sound car, and over 100 others participating with costumes including a contingent of children. A second Brazilian Carnaval parade called a Trio-Electrico will also mark the event which allows participants with special T-Shirts to fall in behind the sound truck enjoying some of the best music from Bahia, the northern part of Brazil.
Performances during the day-long celebration will include SambaLa Samba School, Bahian sensations Flavio Assis with Made in Bahia, and Renni Flores, SambaJah, the Campbell Hall Bateria, Michael Ruggieri, and Brazilian Martial Arts Capoeira show. Performances will take place on the main stage inside of the Blue Cafe with children's classes and activities taking place on the newly remodeled second floor.
Booths featuring Brazilian food, Brazilian goods, and other cultural activities will be on the Promenade and inside the Blue Cafe.
ABOUT SAMBALA - SambaLa Samba School is a 14-year-old non-profit organization based in Long Beach California and is dedicated to creating a community for those who enjoy the Brazilian culture.
